Ms. Eileen Barrett
2018 - 2019 is going to be a great school year! I'm excited to be part of the creative musical process in which the students here Highland Elementary will be involved. Students wil be singing, playing the barred instruments, drums, and non-pitched percussion instruments, and moving and dancing. There's going to be a whole lot of learning and fun going on in the music room.
I love music and sharing it with my students. My goal is that the students here at Highland will develop an enjoyment of music and will want to carry that enjoyment with them throughout their lives. I have had several students over the years who have become teachers, some who have earned university degrees in music performance, and one former student who has completed his doctorate in trombone performance and will be teaching at a university. While I am happy to have a part of their musical development, my goal for all students is lifelong music enjoyment. To that goal, I will be using the Orff Schulwerk process to teach music. I have completed two of the three levels to be certified as an Orff Schulwerk teacher. Orff Schulwerk is a process of teaching music that engages students to learn music using areas that they already enjoy--playing games, creative movement, folk dances, folk songs, singing, composing music, and playing instruments.
I am a semi-professional musician, and play in several groups along the front range and in eastern Colorado. My instrument is trombone and I frequently bring my instrument to school to play for my students. In addition to playing trombone, I also enjoy flower gardening, hiking, riding my bicycle, and running 5k races. Cats and dogs and bunnies are some of my favorite animals.
I am looking forward to a year filled with joyful music!
