Ms. Amy Maheras-Lopez

Hola y bienvenidos. This is my seventh year teaching Spanish at Highland High School. I graduated from the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN with a double major in International Studies and Spanish. While there, I also attended the Universidad Internacional de Menéndez Pelayo in Seville, Spain as an exchange student. I completed my Masters degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA majoring in Romance Linguistics with an emphasis on Spanish. I previously worked in the non-profit sector as a bilingual family advocate and youth programs coordinator and also as an Adjunct Spanish Instructor at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins, CO.

Here at Highland I coordinate the ELD (English Language Development-ELL) porgram, instruct all levels of Spanish which are also available for concurrent enrollment college credit through Aims Community College, and am the sponsor for HOLA, the Highland Organization of Latino Americans.

I look forward to meeting you!
